When we get bored we like to sit around, sit around and stare at at the werewolves, at the seers, at the auxen, at the villys. Buffering- Hannah Hart’s Autobiography It was ok, I read the first chapter and skipped a bunch of the early stuff, which I’ve done for most autobiographies of recent people that I’ve read. I think I only read the early stuff for Tina Fey’s.

Expat Social Fallacies, Part 3

July 1, Art: It turns out that talking about hard things…kinda sometimes helps a tiny bit. This trip was my first big attempt at being more intentional about summer, and doing my best to offset my summer blues. It was fully inspired by my first trip to Rhode Island in , which was dreamy.

Oct 11,  · Five Geek Social Fallacies Within the constellation of allied hobbies and subcultures collectively known as geekdom, one finds many social groups bent under a crushing burden of dysfunction, social drama, and general interpersonal wack-ness.

Yes, I encourage this. A good start is a smile and three seconds of eye contact, which is the threshold for attraction. The men confident enough to approach them are often players, and they intimidate lots of other men. The subject of narcissism is an interest of mine and I recently read a very revealing book on the subject. Many people view narcissism as someone who loves themselves. However narcissists dont and cannot love themselves or others.

They are obsessed with creating a fixed mask to hide emotional numbness. They seek power in their image to dominate from a deep fear of being humiliated. Its something thats thought to be caused by some emotional trauma in childhood…the source of which is outside the scope of this post… But there is a wider concept of narcissism in our society now days that did not used to exist to such an extent.

The image — how we look and display ourself — is of huge importance in our society. This is my opinion is out of balance. Core values of dignity, respect and authenticity in our society take second place now to appearance and power. Previously in cultures an individual would gain high status from having a dignified and wise character. However now we have the age of celebrity where people will do anything to gain power through fame — they are prepared to trash their dignity in order to get it.

Mike has never given me any reason to be jealous of Sarah, and for the first several years of our marriage I made a point of being friendly with her. And besides, it seemed like the right thing to do for my husband to foster friendly relations with someone with whom he was partnered for many years. She and I even got together without Mike there sometimes.

The geek social fallacies of polyamory Assumptions that can steer us wrong The Geek Social Fallacies, which have been making the rounds of the Internet for some time now, are a list of flaws in reasoning about relationships that are depressingly common in geek social groups.

Posted by Mark on April 30, Hello and welcome to denialism blog. First of all, we have to get some basic terms defined for all of our new readers. Denialism is the employment of rhetorical tactics to give the appearance of argument or legitimate debate, when in actuality there is none. They are effective in distracting from actual useful debate using emotionally appealing, but ultimately empty and illogical assertions. Examples of common topics in which denialists employ their tactics include: Denialism spans the ideological spectrum, and is about tactics rather than politics or partisanship.

Chris will be covering denialism of industry groups, such as astroturfing, and the use of a standard and almost sequential set of denialist arguments that he discusses in his Denialist Deck of Cards. They are conspiracy, selectivity cherry-picking , fake experts, impossible expectations also known as moving goalposts , and general fallacies of logic.

3 Ways Women Have Ruined Video Games

Different people have different learning styles, different interests, and different abilities. Some people are best suited to go through a series of classes, while others do best experimenting and learning on their own. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. Others, however, simply ask about the classes they should take to fill their general education requirements.

These questions got me thinking: In the end, I came up with six.

The Rules Revisited I’ve dated countless women and it has always amazed me how little they know about men. If nothing else, this blog is an outlet for voicing my astonishment at the typical female’s ignorance of the male mindset. At most, it is a reliable source of advice for women who want to improve their chances with the opposite sex.

If a girl doesn’t approach or initiate contact with a shy man, nothing will happen. This is true, but handling this situation isn’t as simple as you might think The first thing to do when you find yourself attracted to a shy man is to question your feelings for him. Is that feeling authentic? Do you like his shyness only because you feel like you can’t get a confident man? Do you not mind being more socially powerful than him? Women who are attracted to shy men are sometimes manifesting their need to feel dominance over a man e.

Other times they run to shy men after being rejected by a confident one an “Asshole”.

Why It’s So Hard To Break Up With Someone (Even When You Need To)

Maybe you have lots of fat friends. Maybe you are fat yourself. You might still be in the habit of saying things that contribute to the very real abuse of and discrimination against fat people. Some of these are big, some are small, but they all add up to a serious web of stigma that affects the quality of life for fat people. Things to stop doing in conversations unless you want to contribute to the hatred of fat people:

Jerry Maguire was inspired by the life of super-agent Lee Steinberg who makes a cameo appearance with client, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman. I wanted to be a sports agent for so long, and still do even though I wouldn’t go to law school if you paid me. Despite doing a good job of showing other sides of sports agents, it does create other fallacies. Sorry ladies, but not all agents look like Tom Cruise, who gets the boot and loses all of his clients except one:

Geek Social Fallacy #1: Ostracizers Are Evil. GSF1 is one of the most common fallacies, and one of the most deeply held. Many geeks have had horrible, humiliating, and formative experiences with ostracism, and the notion of being on the other side of the transaction is repugnant to them.

I recommend that you skip this post for the moment, and check out the menu at the bottom of the post to start reading these in order. Expat Social Fallacy 3: Some of these include: He or she tsk-tsks you grimly for having acquired less than he has, offers to teach you to read Hangeul. He lectures you on the dating scene and the importance of respecting Korean culture, even when it seems wrong.

For example, the way drunk women are sometimes beaten up by their drunk apparent boyfriends on the street, or the widespread nature of the sex trade in Korea. He also, on the sly, implies that he or she knows all there is to know about Korea, more than the average Korean knows, and insists that when you drink together, nobody pours his or her own drink, according to the Korean custom. If he walks into a coffee shop with a bottle of beer in one hand and a pack of cards in the other, and begins to drink and gamble — in an unlicensed coffee shop — and is kicked out, this is unfair racism and the place should be boycotted.

Members of this group mispronounce the few Korean words they know almost willfully, when they bother to at all, and tend to make the same kinds of assumptions about Koreans that too many Koreans make about expats: Both groups or individuals from each group have a set of behavioral standards that most normal people find onerous and off-putting.

There is only one book that supports creationist suppositions of the global flood and the 6 day creation. Since science produces about 15, peer-reviewed papers per year over the last 40 years are so and, in fact produced hundreds if not thousands of papers per year for the preceding years, this fallacy only applies to creationism and intelligent design. Begging the Question petitio principii reasoning in a circle, using your conclusion as a premise, assuming the very thing to be proved as proof of itself.

Five Geek Social Fallacies is an influential sociology article by Michael Suileabhain-Wilson, written December 2nd, It explains many of the differences between regular and geek social circles and how the latter invites unnecessary drama through over-inclusiveness.

Anyway, if I see coworkers on dating sites, I think the polite thing to do is just ignore it and move along, so I was not super into the fact that this guy messaged me but I figured he was just being kind of socially obtuse. Dude, if you realized that, why did you message me anyway and tell me that? Anyway, see you Monday! I read and did not respond to the last message. Or would it be better to just block him and pretend it never happened? It might be useful in general to know how to stop an inappropriate interaction like this in the future, so what would you have done?

The awkwardness is in what people do about it. It was inevitable that streams would cross and one of us would bring a dude we were dating to a party and watch him slowly figure out where he knew the rest of us from…because if you liked one of us enough to write to you probably liked all of us…and that we all knew each other…. When seeking romance etc. See you at work, Work Person!

GRF1 “Logic Wins” – This one is the biggie. This is also Holly’s first Geek Sexual Fallacy. This is the fallacy that took me the longest to identify because it’s the fallacy that I’m the most guilty of. The rest of the fallacies have a root in this one because this fallacy is at the root of a lot of geek behavior.
